Pricing

Here is my price list as well as some examples, when available. I try to include a timeframe for these, but if I am running behind at any point I will let you know. This is just for my usual schedule, which figures in RL stuff and other products. A commission that should only take three days could take a week, and a week-long commission could take two if things get crazy. On the other hand, I have been known to work ahead of schedule if I get a good rhythm going. I don't include preliminary stuff in these timeframes.

I will add additional characters to pictures for a fee, depending on the character. If it is something small like a mouse or a weasel or something, I may not charge extra. A dog or a cat may get a small additional fee. A person can be $10+, depending on the commission. A large animal, like a horse or elephant, may get the same additional charge as a human. If there are any props that are particularly detailed or time consuming, like a specific model machine gun or something, I might ask for additional payment. If the character you want is, say, a Pokemon, note me because I will likely lower prices for color commissions for animal characters.

For backgrounds, I am trying to keep it simple on anything under $50. Detailed backgrounds can be requested, but I will add an additional fee. I'm also still learning with backgrounds, so outside of manga pages I am not entirely comfortable drawing them, especially in color and digitally. But if you really want a background you can note me and we can discuss what's possible and for how much, and what I can't do.

FYI: the turnaround time can vary depending on my work schedule... Usually it is a month max but it can take months if I am really really busy, so if you are pressed for time check with me first!

For anything else not listed, please contact me by noting me on DA, especially pertaining to anything with an actual background.

Before you request anything, please read my ToS!! I'll be updating it periodically as stuff comes up, but for now scroll down and read through my terms of service. I explain what I will and won't draw as well as payment policies, etc.

Terms Of Service

PAYMENT
• Payment must be made before I start drawing. I will not even sketch anything until Paypal sends me payment notification.
• I only accept Paypal payments at the moment.
• At any moment, I may change my system from US dollars to Japanese yen, the reason being I live in Japan and I have to constantly change prices in dollars to combat the weakening dollar. Once I figure out how to get payments sent directly to my Japanese bank, though, it's all going to change to yen.
• NO REFUNDS. I cannot stress this enough. I keep commissioners involved during the course of making the art, so if you aren't satisfied at any point, please say so. I will redraw and make edits when possible, but if the whole picture is finished and you want a refund, you won't get it. If you want a refund BEFORE I start any work on the picture beyond sketches, that can be arranged, but once I get the okay to draw the actual line art, you are SOL. The reason for this is because I don't want people getting free art. If you think you are sly for asking for a refund after getting a few sketches, well, you probably don't realize how sketchy my roughs are. If I cancel a commission you will certainly get a refund, though, no matter how far along I am.
• If you go missing in the middle of the commission and I don't hear from you for months and months, don't come up to me a year later and ask for a refund, or ask me to finish the picture. In the past I have had people hand over money and say "I'll get back to you with character info later" and I never heard from them again… I will of course try to contact you, but if after two or three emails I don't get a response, I move on to other things. After a year I delete the commission info and throw out whatever sketches I did for you, so don't forget about me, or I'll just walk off with your money.
• It's not a good idea to give me extra money for "future commissions". This has happened in the past where someone gave me $300 more than he was supposed to… And partway through his commissions the guy disappeared. I don't know what I'll be doing in three months usually, so this way of thinking doesn't work for me very well. If something comes up, I can't refund money after so long without being charged on paypal. So just give me one payment at a time.
• In general I don't send pictures to people since I usually work digitally, but if I do something traditionally and you want the original, ask me about shipping.

WILL DRAW
• I will draw anime-styled characters, chibis, furry in either anime or Western style. Asking me to draw anything else is probably taking me out of my comfort zone, but you can ask!
• Fan art, OCs, it's all good. I might ask for reference pics, and you would be my buddy for life if you actual had some ready ☺
• Nudes are all right, and some softcore intimacy is going to be all right. I like drawing pinup style pictures, but if you want something with sex just keep in mind that I follow DA's rules, so watch the kiddie stuff. If I find out you are asking me to draw a 14-year-old in a sexual situation, I'm going to decline your request and ask you to pick something else.
• If there is something that you absolutely want me to draw that cannot be posted due to DA's rules, please contact me. Some things I might be willing to draw for an additional fee. The additional fee is there because if I can't post it to DA or use it in my portfolio I want to get a decent amount for a picture I can't use.
• I will draw in another artist's style (or attempt to) if it is requested. Specifically only established artists and not independent artists on DA. If they are on DA, pay them to draw your picture :p

WON'T DRAW
• In general, I won't draw mecha. I've done it before, but you will probably find examples in my gallery that show I'm just not good at it. If you absolutely don't care, note me, because I may be open to some things that aren't too technical.
• Penis! Vagina!
• Super gore, super violence… Fight scenes and some blood is fine, but if a woman is drinking blood from an artery like someone drinking lemonade through a straw… no thanks. In general, violence needs to be at a PG-13 level. Again, this is more because "I'm just not good at it" than "I think it's icky", but there is a little bit of that, too.
• Hate art, Nazi luv luv art… unless it's hate art of, say, AKB48. I hate them. But I don't want someone to send me a request to draw something racist or overly offensive.

PERSONAL USE
• Even though I may be drawing your character, you do not have permission to post the picture in your DA gallery. Why? Because you didn't draw the picture. I don't care if it is your character, those lines and colors are something I worked on, and I don't want to lose any possible views or favorites because the picture exists on someone else's gallery. You can imbed the image into your journal or post a link to the thumbnail, though. But I need those watches, faves, views, and comments since this is kind of my livelihood. You CAN use the image for your DA icon, though.
• Outside of DA, I am a lot less strict. If you have a website, you can use the image as long as you aren't taking credit for the actual art itself. A link back or just "art by Ogawa Burukku" somewhere would be great.
• Using any of my art for an avatar or icon is fine, be it for LJ or DA or whatever. You don't need to credit me.
• You are not allowed to resell the artwork without my permission. I will not allow prints being made and sold, but if you use the image in a compilation book or something I might not mind. If you do intend to sell the item, let me know because I will adjust the price, discuss royalties, and I might just put a little more effort into it… As in, I may add a background when previously there wasn't supposed to be one, etc. But I better get some kind of kickback.
• Don't claim you drew the picture. I won't be having any of that, sir.
• As for me, I retain the right to use the art in my portfolio. I won't sell the image outside of DA prints, but if DA prints doesn't work for you I won't make that an option (usually I don't do this on new images anyway, but in the past I have made the sell prints option available). I can put the images on DA and Pixiv and wherever else I choose to post my art, but you will be credited either in the image itself or in the description (or both) if the character is original. If you don't want your image in my portfolio, I will ask you to pay an extra fee.

WORK PROCESS

Basically, I do things in stages, and I try to keep the commissioner involved as much as I can throughout the process. If at any point you are unhappy, let me know! I am always happy to redo lines or colors, etc.

• Step 1 – I get a note from someone asking for a request. We'll call this commissioner A.J. Ficklemeister.
• Step 2 – Before any money changes hands, Mr. Ficklemeister looks over my PRICE LIST and determines how much something would cost beforehand so nothing surprises him, and then he tells me his idea. I offer suggestions or tell him if something costs more or less than what he initially thought, etc. Mr. Ficklemesiter really wants me to draw his original character Dr. Ficklez and a sexy lingerie picture of Azusa from K-ON! – But gasp! Azunyan is only 16, so I make some suggestions. First of all, he could save money if he combined the pictures into one, and I tell him while I can't draw lingerie I can draw Azusa in more of a cute style in a bikini, without the sexual suggestiveness. He agrees, and we now have Dr. Ficklez and Azunyan in a swimsuit playing with a beach ball.
• Step 3 – Mr. Ficklemeister sends me payment through Paypal. Confirmed! Time to draw!
• Step 4 – Sketches! I make a few rough sketches and send them, and Mr. Ficklemeister hates them all and has me redo them with a new suggestion. Acceptable. I finish the sketch to his liking and get ready to start the actual line art. After this point we reach the point of no return, where refunds are impossible.
• Step 5 – Line art! I draw the line art in pencil and send it. Mr. Ficklemeister doesn't like Azunyan's bikini, so I change it to a school assigned one-piece.
• Step 6 – Inking! I ink in either traditional inks or through digital methods, depending on the piece and my daily schedule. Mr. Ficklemeister, being oh-so-fickle, decides he wants his character to actually have a Mohawk. No problem. I often combine step six and seven, by the by.
• Step 7 – Base colors! This is especially important with OCs. I send the inks and flat colors and make sure they are okay. Usually this is the last time I send the pic to be verified, since after this point changes will be difficult. Mr. Ficklemeister has me change his character's eye color, which is fine, but when he decides he wants Yui instead of Azunyan, he is out of luck. A big change like that should have been discussed prior to line art stage. So instead he asks me to give Azusa shorter pigtails and brown hair… that I can do, though this has ceased to be a K-ON character.
• Step 8 – Finishing touches. Shading, highlights, detailing… that gets done here. Usually when I finish I post to DA rather than send a WIP to the commissioner, so Mr. Ficklemeister better be happy with what he gets! If he wants a small change, like freckles or something, I can do that but I will sometimes flatten layers in this step and changes are harder to do.
• Step 9 – Send finished picture to DA and sometimes Pixiv, where I will usually post a link back to the commissioner (always if it's an OC).

If there is a certain size you want me to draw the picture in, let me know in the very beginning. Otherwise I usually just work in 300 dpi and whatever size I feel like.

I'd be interested in a B/W full-body with two characters. One additional color in mind (and only one!). It's an OC (a Persona character and her associated Persona); I have a partial reference pic for one character -I'm in the process of digging up a couple more.

Oh, and I can pay whenever you're ready for it - $30, right?
