I went with the otter Mijumaru for my starter (because I accidentally saw the final evolutions of Pokabu... NOT COOL, the forms I had imagined were so much cooler), and he's pretty lame until he evolves into his second form (Futachimaru? Can't remember), and he is apparently a samurai otter (who kind of looks like a beaver). Sure, okay. I've also got a terrier in my party, a cat named Choroneko, Shimama the electric zebra, Minezumi the... prairie dog rat thing, and Manmu the pink floating gas pokemon. I am not particularly wild about any of these pokemon, so after they evolve I'll be switching them with some of the other pokes I've found. The only Pokemon I have found so far that I really like is Tabunne. I don't know what it's supposed to be, but it's pretty darn cute. But some of the pokemon are just ridiculous. There is a pokemon that looks like a walking eyeball and a pokemon that looks like a blue man in a karate uniform, and some of the pokemon look more like the actual animal they represent (the chinchilla and puppy pokemon, for example). But I've still only come across about twenty pokemon, so I'm not really complaining yet.
The battle scenes are so much more exciting now. The camera moves around, the critters are constantly wiggling-- and you know what? The preview movies don't really show them enough for you to notice, but the game designers made the animals really show their personalities or the natural animal characteristics, and took the time to do this, and it blows my mind. Tsutaaja crosses his arms and taps his foot to the ground impatiently, Shimama's ears flicker like real herd animals, Mamebato is constantly looking around with a blank stare like real pigeons, and whenever a pokemon is sleeping from a sleep attack, it closes it's eyes! I LOVE THAT. I also really like the new attack menu.
The side characters are actual characters, and I like them. I also like how you can use a something-caster to video call your friends, and the screen changes to show their anime-like designs rather than the little pixels. Very cool. The game makers also made sure not to give any of the starters an advantage or disadvantage, and when there is one it's intended rather than bad luck of the draw. In most games, the fire starter has the advantage, but not with this game. I'm glad they finally fixed that poor planning. Team Plasma is also kind of interesting. Their goal is to free the imprisoned pokemon from their trainers, but they are like PETA and just annoy everyone and spread hate, and at one point they are kicking a pokemon.
I still haven't tried bringing over any of my old pokemon to the new game, but I might bring Celebi over so I can get Zoroa and add him to my party. I also still haven't accessed the dream world via the internet. Right now I'm just exploring every single crevice and building up my Isshu Dex.
I HATE the bag system now. The last two games had really nicely organized pockets for your character's bag, and it was easy to move stuff around or find certain items. Balls and regular items are now in the same pocket, and you can't move important items up to the front like before. I have no idea what they were thinking when they designed the bag, but I am definitely not used to it. And C Gear is really useless if you are like me and play by yourself. They have it as a permanent setting on your lower screen, and I'd rather it be the pokemon menu or something else. I just got the dowsing gear though, so I sometimes put that in place of the C-Gear. Dowsing has been made super easy, which is great for in-game penny pinchers like me. I also like that I can now switch the text to kanji... I guess they realized they have adult game players, too.
After the busy week I had, it's nice to finally relax and have a day to myself. I'll probably keep playing my game until tonight, because I've really got to finish

I think my only complain on Pokemon was time consuming. There was once my sister tries to hatch the eggs and she just sat there moving around in circles waiting for it to hatch... I think she did it while watching anime or something... Hahaha xD
PS: I love Hikaru no Go
Haha, I'm actually going to give a REAL review of the game for GEEKINGOUTABOUT.COM sometime next month, assuming by then I'll have finished the game. And actually, I like that stuff takes time, because normally when I'm playing pokemon I'm on a train or just killing time somewhere, so I'm never in a hurry to WIN WIN WIN or anything. I have definitely done the walking in circles thing with eggs though, heh.
geekingoutabout.com? Is that you and your friend's site? Haha, I read your post about the movie title and had a good laugh in the morning here (although I am not a movie freak, so I don't know some of the plot, but I just know some of the titles). I never know they change the title of movie there as well (and a weird change at that).
Japanese translations of American movies are so BAD. I remember Americans complaining about the subs on anime DVDs when I lived in America, but the subtitles here are so much worse. They completely change the dialogue and simplify it, and I've had to tell so many friends "I swear this movie is funny in English."
BUT OMG I'm so glad that one starter doesn't have an extreme advantage anymore >;] I think one of the biggest qualms I had with games like SoulSilver was that fire was SO overpowered right from the start, and water was pretty high up there was well. And then poor Chikorita... which I picked, sucked so bad that I ended up using my Mareep/Flaafy/Ampharos as a main 90% of the time.
The evolutions for Pokabu are kind of scary D: And I don't think I was expecting for Tsutaaja to get kind of... snakey, but it's still cool. I like how they went more back to basics (?) with a lot of them, although it's funny because a few of them look like pre/evolutions of some of the older pokemon, even though they said that Isshu was going to be completely seperate from the rest of the world. (Especially Mamanbou, who looks exactly like what i'd imagine an evolved Luvdisc would look like.)
Is the in game background music nice? This is WAY random, but i've had an extreme dislike for the game music in all of them except for Emerald. (Which sucks because Emerald was kind of... bleh. Except for the contest part. The contests in R/S/E were AWESOME. I'm pretty sure that was the only game I ever did more than just... gyms and fill the pokedex. Oh and fail really hard at the Battle Frontier =_= That place is evil tell you.)
Ahaha this comment is so random... i'm way too excited for this game. It's so awesome how they gave Black and White big differences, like the scenery and design in some cities, and then a whole city that is unique to each game x3
New pokemon are exciting, but I think I like to mix up old with new more than just have NEW NEW NEW. Especially since some of the new ones are REALLY forced, and I didn't feel that way about the Gen IV pokemon.
My theory is that these pokes WILL be tied to SOME of the originals. Emonga, the flying squirrel pokemon, only has one form in the game, so I think it would make sense for Pachirisu to be it's pre-evolution. And I agree with you about Mamanbou. I HOPE some of them will be tied together, because that was something I always liked about new generations, was adding new forms to the older pokemon.
I actually really like the music for this game. There is one city with the ground-type gym leader that has really cute music that reminds me of stuff from my Sega Genesis years. (and yeah, Emerald sucked, contests are awesome, and Battle Frontier is, indeed, the devil. I just don't even go there... in this game the frontier is now a Battle Subway, where you ride trains and battle, and it's kind of stupid).
I'm going to give a more detailed review of the game sometime early next month, after I've finished it and can say more about the pokemon and everything. I'm about halfway through... this is probably the first game I've played in the series where water types are hard to get (I still don't have a fishing pole!), grass types are fairly limited (though what they do have are pretty awesome), and fire types are few and far between (and not very cool, save Pokabu). There are a ton of Pyschic pokemon, normal pokemon, and some really cool electric types, as well as some decent dark types. But most of all, the villains for this actually have an interesting motive besides world domination, and this is the very first time the story has interested me. I actually wish the anime would kill off Ash and Team Rocket and just follow the game's plot, because it's really interesting (for a Pokemon game, at least).
I totally caved and watched some gameplay videos X''D I told myself I would just wait till the spring, but... OH WELL. It looks AMAZING! The pokemon seem so much more alive now, rather than just... sprites. @_@
Oh man that would be so awesome if they did like... a whole new pokemon world anime. With completely different characters and stuff. I mean I guess with the Zoroa/Zoroark movie they kind of killed the option to opt out of Ash & Co. for Isshu, but if they had done the Black/White world seperate, it would have been amazing. Although they DID replace most of the old characters with new ones (Ie Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny are gone, and as far as I know, Brock and Dawn went their own ways) which is nice... but Ash. Is still there. =u= Hopefully the B/W trainers will show up?
For some pokemon, the action really kind of completes the design. There is a ghost type who uses a pharaoh's casket to hide in. I thought he looked stupid in magazines, but in the game the casket will close and open with dark hands coming out, and it actually looks kinda cool and more pokemon appropriate than just the casket. There's also a pokemon with a runny nose, and you see him sucking up the hanging snot back into his nose and then it running back out. I didn't think I'd like them moving, but I absolutely love it and could probably never go back to static pokemon again.
I think Oak is still around, and Team Rocket unfortunately stays, but in the movie Zoroa was brought to a city on Ash's... uh... continent? Land mass? So they never went to Isshu in the movie anyway. But I hate the Pokemon anime formula, I would really like to have seen a total revamp. Joy and Jenny also got new hairstyles, so they do actually stick around. Or, well, people with their name and occupation and face do.
