My dog bit me Monday night (he got his foot stuck, panicked, and bit me several times when I tried to get him out... if he would have just SAT STILL it wouldn't have hurt! sheesh...), to the point where I probably should have gone to the hospital, so until the weekend all projects are kind of on hold. It's healing all right, it just hurts to do anything at all with my thumb. Thankfully it wasn't my drawing hand, and I don't use my left thumb for typing, but for everything else I'm pretty gimpy. I am doing sketches, just nothing more involved than that until it's healed a bit more.

I've decided I AM going to do an art contest again this year, but I'm not sure if I should open up a new group specifically for the contest or if I should just post it all here again. I got WAY more entries last year than I was expecting (40-something, when I was expecting maybe 12-15), so I think it would be more organized as a group, but what do you guys think? Do contest groups work out very well, or should I just host it on my site as I did last year?

And my emoticon refers to my injured thumb. Sorry if I've seemed emo lately with my emoticon choices, hee-yuck.

Happy Halloween everyone! I probably won't do anything since my birthday is two days later, and I'd rather spend money on an amusement park and delicious food than a silly costume and booze. Or maybe at nearly 27 I am just too much of a grandmother to enjoy going out the way I used to. Besides, Japan doesn't really celebrate Halloween anyway... you'd think we do because of all the Halloween related art you see from anime and manga artists, but it is a lie!

Thanks and thanks again :D
I'm not creeped out, haha. In America I still get carded (my 23 year old brother doesn't), but here in Japan people tell me I look older. So I think that's one reason getting closer to 30 scares me >_<

you're welcome:)
lol Well don't people in that part of asia normally look really young until they get really old? I haven't been to Japan but I went to Singapore and well...I felt like my age might be wrong and I'm a lot older than them:O

Yeah, I actually had to date guys who were ten years older than me for a while because when I was 22 guys my own age looked waaaay too young for me. The maturity level is also really different here, since guys who are 22 are usually still living with their parents and don't pay most of their bills. Heck, my 31 year old boyfriend still doesn't pay his phone bill or insurance himself, haha.

Wow that must've been an interesting experience:O. Hmm I always thought people were more mature and independent there! Well I guess the media can be deceiving lol..or I'm an idiot for thinking anime would actually portray Japanese society right:D.

Hahaha, nooo... you have to remember a huge chunk of anime is made by guys who project their fantasies upon their art (like women being sweet and demure here... AHAHAHAHA). That and Japanese are very two-faced... not everyone, but it is very hard to make really good friends with Japanese people (especially women for some reason) because they will tell you one thing and really mean something completely different. I just recently had to deal with a Japanese woman who takes advantage of EVERYONE she knows, and those people she uses are often fully aware of it and talk behind her back about her. They do her bidding, pretend they like her, and secretly hope somehow it will pay off in the end. Anime makes you think everyone is SUPER nice here, but a lot of times it's just a weird act. Again, not everyone, but I've seen it enough times that I have a hard time figuring out who my friends are and who is just using me. I think in my six years being here, I've only made three friends I would actually consider true friends I trusted.

On the flip side, sometimes they are overly up front with you even if you aren't very close. Japanese are very quick to point out if you've gained weight, and oddly enough one of the few things that IS like anime is how they will reach over and squeeze your boobs if they think you are a little big, most of the time without asking. It's like they don't have that tiny voice in their head that says "I think that is something you think rather than say or do." J-Dramas also depict a very different take on Japan than real Japan. I kind of wish Japanese people were more like their Drama and Anime counterparts, haha.

Woah seriously!? I kind of know how hard it is to deal with people who only talk to you because they need something. Sometimes you think someone's your friend and then they just screw you over or ignore you after they get what they need. I guess that means a lot of asia is like that cuz its exactly the same where I am and I still have a really hard time figuring things out! Not everyone is like that but the majority is.

Um some people just reach out and grab you:O? That's sexual harassment! It must be kind of awkward. So I guess that means all the Japan crazed foreigners actually like the one portrayed by anime? You must have some really interesting experiences:D.

I have been sexually harassed more times than I can count. My old boss, a 40-something male, once got drunk at the bar he owned and asked me if I had implants. As if that wasn't bad enough, when I wasn't looking he reached out and grabbed me to "make sure I wasn't lying". Real class-act.

Not all of anime is a total lie, but... it's definitely exaggerated. Most foreigners I've met who have lived in Japan for so many years say they are pretty disillusioned by the end.
