It's Lynn Minmay! From Macross! And if you don't know who I'm talking about, you must have been born in the nineties (or gosh, later... I'm so old ;_; ).
and I are doing a collaboration for Comic Market in the summer, and for our circle cut for the catalog he drew Miku from Vocaloid. I decided to combat his techno idol with the ORIGINAL idol of anime otaku, Lynn Minmay! I prefer my idols to have an actual voice, you see.
Minmay represents a time when idols COULD ACTUALLY SING, and where it wasn't 100 girls who are sort of attractive, can kind of dance, and can barely sing running around on a stage, it was ONE girl in front of thousands of fans, captivating them not with numbers but with her charisma, her smile, and her voice! And Minmay has a great '80s idol voice. Her cover of "Angel Voice" is one of my favorite Macross songs.
For the illustration book we're doing I'll also be drawing two more Macross franchise songstresses... so this isn't entirely random, haha.
